Pantomime

The beavers, cubs and scouts all joined together to have a night out at the pantomime. We went to see Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs at Motherwell Civic Centre on Friday 1st December. It was a great night with two of the beavers being the stars of the show as they were invited onto the stage with the cast – cant wait for next year!!!

Scouts to Xscape

The scouts will be going to the Climb zone at Xscape Glasgow on Thursday 23rd November. This will coat £10 per head and has a limited amount of spaces so the money should be paid as soon as you can. I will be looking for parents to help with transport please.

SPL

At the camp at Lochgoilhead we have made a SPL (senior patrol leader). Gavin is in his last year of his scouts and working towards his Chief scout gold award. He has great leadership qualities (like cleaning up sick) and all of the other scouts look up to him. Bill and I thought you were a worthy recipient of the award. Well done mate!

Scouts Summer camp to Lochgoilhead

During the summer 12 boys and 2 leaders took off on our summer camp to Lochgoilhead. This was a week long camp where the kids got to take part in many activities they wouldn’t get the chance to at any other camp. They had the chance to do canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, raft building, archery, bell boating, fishing and much more. The weather was good for the second half of the week although it didn’t stop us enjoying a peaceful walk each night around the local area, only a few complaints from a couple of boys, the same ones each night I must add. A great week that I am sure we all enjoyed.

Photos from the camp can be viewed in our members area.

Scouts Win District Competition

The scouts have achieved the double by winning the district camping

competition at Avondyke for the second year in a row. We entered two

patrols this year and both did extreamlly well coming in 1st and 3rd. Lots

of hard work had gone into the preperation for the camp and working in

their patrols they done great. A special credit must go to the patrol leaders

who worked extreamlly hard. Well done to you all guys. What about making

it the treble next year??? Thanks to Wullie, explorer leader and his explorers

who ran the event.

Cub 90th Birthday Party Sleepover

Recently the Cubs had a sleepover in the Scout hall to celebrate our Birthday. We had a fun night playing part games and also had a Birthday cake. We didn’t have 90 candles as we were frightened the smoke alarm would go off! The candles were blown out by our oldest and youngest Cubs.

The boys eventually settled around 1am, so we did manage to get some sleep. The next day we had morning exercises and a run around the football pitches (this was part of their Athletes Badge) we also made some cakes to take home and had workshop groups to talk about different aspects of kitchen hygiene and safety, healthy eating and different methods of cooking. The Cubs left for home at 2pm and Akela was in bed by 3pm. Looking forward to next sleepover!!

Cubs Parents Evening

On the 7th March the Cubs had great pleasure in inviting their parents to a night at the Cubs. No they didn’t have to play games or join in the ‘Grand Howl’. This was an evening when parents came to hear a bit about what goes on on a Tuesday night.

This started with a short presentation on the history of Scouting followed by the Cubs performing some sketches that they had been practicing for weeks. Some of the boys were slightly nervous although they were excellent. So well done everyone.

We then stopped for a well deserved cuppa, cakes and chat which were enjoyed by all.

The evening ended with a slide presentation of all the Cub activities of 2005 and also the plans for 2006. As the Cubs are celebrating their 90th Birthday this year, we have planned a different event each month. So a busy year!!

Thanks to all the parents who came to support their son.

AGM

We have recently told you that the group will be having an AGM. The last remaining details for this are now being finalised and I can confirm that the meeting will take place in our scout hall on Wednesday 29th March 2006. The meeting will commence at 7.30pm and should last roughly about 1 hour.

We are looking for your support by attending to help the future of scouting within the group and for your child. At the moment we have a group committee however we are looking to update it as well as hoping to organise a parents committee to which we will be looking for volunteers to join and support the 2nd Coatbridge Scout Group. Next year is a big year for the group as we will be celebrating our 100th Anniversary.

It would be nice to see at least one representation for your child. Please come along to help with the future of your child’s time in scouting. All that is left for you to do is fill out the return slip and get it back to one of the leaders for next week please so we can get a rough estimate of how many people will be attending. Even if you can’t make it, please return the slip. Tea, coffee and cakes will be supplied after the meeting.

Bill Craig – Group Scout Leader

Every child was given a form last week, if you didnt recieve one then get in touch with a leader, thanks.

Beaver Sleepover

The Beaver section had a fantastic sleepover last friday (24/02/06)

Hi Everyone.

Just a short note on how the Beaver sleepover went.

The boys arrived at 7.30pm with a few anxious looking mums in tow. They soon settled down- the mums and dads that is.The boys didn't and they ran about and played games untill supper time, which we had about 8.30. We then let them draw pictures of their sleepover, these are on the wall.At about 9.30 we started to get them ready for bed, we put on a dvd and settled them into their sleeping bags.Only one boy fell asleep but most of them were asleep by 12.00, except a few who talked well into the night. They slept longer in the morning than the cubs and scouts do.They did not get up untill 8.30 when we had breakfast. They then went to the park. When we got back we played with the parachute which was a favourite game, we then had lunch . After lunch we played a few more games then got ready to go home. The boys received a nightaway badge for this. The boys were well behaved and our first sleepover was enjoyed by all boys and leaders alike.

p.s.a big thank you to all the leaders who helped me with this sleepover. There are a few photos to view in the member area of the sleepover.

Capitation fees and annual census

It has come to the time of year for the annual census and this also means the payment of capitation fees. This year’s fee will be £20 per child and an additional £15 for a 2nd child. Last year we collected £2 per week but got confusing for some people (that means me) so I am asking if this year you could pay the amount in full if possible or if you would prefer to pay the amount up each week then please can you let me know, thanks. I should mention, the £20 pays for the subscription and insurance of your child for 1 year. This is essential and everyone must pay the amount, even the leaders have to. Cheques can be made payable to 2nd Coatbridge Scout Group. The census has been complete and I can confirm that for this year our group has 67 members.
