The camp last weekend was a huge success; the whole district went to Auchengillan and had a great time. Our group was the largest representative from the district sending 45 kids. It was a tough weekend and hard work for the leaders but was all made worth while with the enjoyment that the kids had.

Giant Sleepover 2007

The scouts and cubs had a great weekend in June when the took part in the Giant Sleepover for the 4th year. This is an event that the kids always look forward to and had a great time. Most of the camp was organized and run by one of the Young Leaders who had to gain his YL award. A great success so well done on that front, we will make a leader of you one day!!! The sleepover took place on the Friday and on the Saturday the cubs and scouts spent the day at Coltswood where they spent the day going round some scouting bases. The cubs when home on the Saturday evening and the scouts camped the night in Coltswood and all enjoyed a walk back to the hall in Whifflet on the Sunday afternoon.

Parents Night

We had a parent’s night at the hall on Tuesday 15th May. This turned out a great night with parents from beavers, cubs and scouts all coming along. This was a chance for the parents to get a look at what the kids get up to when they are away at camp and to see what’s planned for the future. Thanks for everyone who did come along, your support is essential.

Area Flag Camping Competition

A huge well done to the 6 scouts who went to represent the 2nd Coatbridge scouts and Monklands district in the area flag camping competition. The boys had to survive on their own for the weekend, working as a patrol, cooking their own meals and doing scouting activities such as axe & saw, first aid, patrol tents, knots & lashings, map & compass, campfire, games and more. The kids all had a great time, and all came back with learning a new skill. The other patrol who represented Monklands district was the 8th Airdrie, who went on the win the area flag, well done to you! Good luck at the Scottish!

District Camping Competition

Two patrols were entered into this year’s competition from 2nd Coatbridge. The weekend was a huge success with all the boys having a great time. The patrols came in 2nd and 3rd, which I know there were very happy with. Credit to the kids for all their hard work, I know they done themselves and the leaders proud, well done guys. 8th Airdrie won the competition this year. They and a patrol from 2nd Coatbridge will go to the Area camping competition on 12th -13th May.

The cubs and scouts camped for 2 night and the beavers camp to join us for the day on Saturday. Lots of activities were planned and even had a chance to do a few for myself, reaching 12 high in the crate building I think it was. We had grass sledging, go carts, play park, climbing wall, adventure course and lots more. A weekend enjoyed by all 53 kids and 11 leaders. We must also thank our two camp cooks for the weekend, great meals rod and kenny!!! Fingland Bothy - Feb 2007

The scouts spent their first weekend away of the centenary year. On Saturday morning the scouts walked into Fingland Bothy from the Flemington estate. It was a nice morning until half way through we got caught in the usual Scottish weather. Hail, rain, sleep, sunshine and snow all in the one morning. It was a tough walk in especially when we got caught in a snow blizzard. We were all glad to reach the bothy around midday to get a warm drink and cosy around the fire. It was a cold night and had nice dry day to walk home on Sunday. A great experience for all.

New Group Badge

Our new centenary scout badge has been unveiled. Mark

Davidson came up with the winning design and it has been

made into a badge for the group to celebrate our 100th

anniversary. The badge is now a formal part of our uniform

and should be worn on the back of each member’s neckie.
