Who are Scouts?
Scouts are boys and girls aged between 10 1/2 and 14 years old who want to make friends and develop their interests in ways which areboth educational and fun. Scouts can come into the troop at the age of 10 and may stay until they are 15 years old. Scouts meet as troops with each troop consisting of various patrols, usually ranging from four to eight scouts. One of the scouts in each patrol is appointed as the patrol leader (PL), who is in charge of that individual patrol. Each patrol also has an assistant patrol leader (APL).
"It is up to the Patrol Leader to take hold of and to develop the qualities of each Scout in his patrol. It sounds like a big order, but in practice it works."
Lord Baden-Powell, Founder
What Scouts do
Scouts are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities. Scouting activities are usually more adventurous than the younger sections. Scouts participate in activities such as camping, hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, pioneering and lots more. Other topics scouts take part in are survival skills, cooking and first aid, as well as playing games and having a good time!!!
The Programme
Scouts take part in a programme known as a "balanced programme" which helps find out about the world in which we live in. This programme encourages the scouts to know there own abilities, values and personal attitudes as well as the importance of keeping fit and to develop their creative talents. The programme is split into manageable areas known as the "programme zones"
